Our students are encouraged to exhibit positive attitudes to learning, high levels of independence, co-operation, tolerance of others, self-discipline, and pride in achievement. Courses of study for Years 7 - 10 offer a challenging environment across the eight Key Learning Areas (Arts, English, Health and Physical Education, Languages Other Than English, Technology, Mathematics, Studies of Society and Environment and Science), all of which are equitably represented in a balanced curriculum grid. In addition, an Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), established in 1997, enables selected students to cover an enriched Years 7-10 curriculum, potentially in only three years.

The LOTE program sees Indonesian taught within the school. This is supported by Distance Education, especially with respect to Japanese, French, German and Italian.

Instrumental Music, taught by specialist teachers shared with other schools, can be taken at any level.

Literacy and Numeracy strategies are incorporated into a variety of Learning Areas in specialty programs. English teachers, in collaboration with Literacy aides, have been working intensively upon developing shared strategies to help students who experience difficulties with spelling and writing skills.

VCE students undertake 12 units (Year 11) and 10 units (Year 12), with opportunities to study across year levels (i.e. Year 11 students are being encouraged to undertake a Year 12 subject, where timetabling allows).

Vocational Education is available from Year 11, in collaboration with TAFE. Also the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) has been introduced into Year 11 and 12.

Trafalgar High School is committed to providing all students with disabilities and impairments access to the highest quality educational opportunities. Integrated students attend Trafalgar High School both in a full and part-time capacity and are resourced by an integration teacher and support staff.
