The ability to use a Language Other Than English (L.O.T.E.) and move between cultures is important for full participation in the modern world, especially in the context of increasing globilisation and Australia's cultural diversity. Communicating in a language other than English and gaining intercultural knowledge and language awareness are the two main learning objectives of this study. At Trafalgar High School, Indonesian, is our nominated LOTE. Students are introduced to Indonesian at Year 7 and are able to continue this subject through to V.C.E. Students are encouraged to continue their language studies until V.C>E. to increase their opportunities of getting a higher ENTER score. In this area of study, students are involved in many different units of work and varieties of study, which include visiting Indonesian markets, sampling Indonesian foods, Indonesian cultural activities and Indonesian visitors. |
